With Gratitude To God's Grace

2. The Word of God is Full of Power

Every Saturday we were divided into small groups to go down the mountain to practice preaching. One Saturday I followed one small group to the side of the West Lake to preach to the crowd. I looked around. There were soldiers of the Liberation Army who were fully armed; I was a little scared. One of the leading brothers asked me to preach on the spot because I had been filled with the Holy Spirit. I was so cared, and I didn't know what to say. Therefore, I simply closed my eyes, because I thought if I didn't see the soldiers, I might not be scared. Didn't Pastor Chingtsai Chi preach with his eyes closed? Then, I spoke softly with a trembling voice. "It is very good to believe in Jesus. All of you come to believe in Jesus." All of a sudden, I remembered two days ago, I read one sentence from the book of John. I recited that Scripture without adding or subtracting: "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!" As I spoke of God's Word, immediately I was filled with the Holy Spirit. My entire body was lifted up and my feet were ascending from the ground. Hurriedly I held on to a bamboo pole beside me which was used to display a flag of the cross. We carried this pole as we preached; wherever we went, we planted it in the ground to attract people to listen to the gospel. I thought I absolutely could not ascend into the air. If I did, the Liberation Army would arrest me. They would assume that I was a vagrant who practiced sorcery to deceive people. When I finished preaching, I opened my eyes and saw the crowd was looking at us carefully. Then after a while, they gradually left. One soldier came to ask me: "Then how can one believe in Jesus?" I could not answer him, but gave him the address of the house of God on the mountain. I invited him to come up to the mountain the next day, Sunday. That night, I heard someone telling the Lord's servant, Uncle Chang: "Today I asked Ahua to preach. Her eyes were closed and her voice was as soft as the sound of a mosquito." How terrible that they lodged a complaint against me! However the next day, that soldier from the Liberation Army did come up to the mountain. The Lord's servant preached two chapters of the Scripture, which were harder than usual. I was just worrying how he could understand it. Unexpectedly he followed Uncle Chang to his little house to talk after the meeting. When he came out, tears were all over his face. He had repented and was saved. Later, I learned that he was a section chief and was soon to be transferred to another place. He wrote to us that there was no freedom for his body, which was maneuvered by his superior, but his heart believed in the Lord firmly and he was willing to pay any price for the Lord. He asked us to intercede for him. This incident made me realize no matter how weak and useless I was physically, as long as I proclaimed God's words, I had power to get hold of people. The word of God is the Spirit, the powerful hammer, and the sharp double-edged sword. Nothing is impossible with the word of God. Thousands of sentences of man's words -- filled with philosophy and maybe pleasant to listen to -- are not as good as a sentence of God's word that will bless and benefit others.
