9. The Prayer Mountain
I had just arrived in Hong Kong when I met a female missionary
named Mrs. Zhau. She
voluntarily accompanied me when I would give testimonies or preach
anywhere. Once a month there was an overnight prayer meeting organized
by her church which was open to every church and believer.
She also took me to this prayer meeting the first time.
At dusk we were assembled at the foot of the mountain where vans
would take us to the top of the mountain.
Mrs. Zhau was in charge of the meals, so she needed to be there
earlier. She told the sisters
and brothers from various churches that I was a daughter of Dorcas Liu and
that I had just come from Mainland China. My mother had served the church voluntarily and many people
knew her. Some of these rich
ladies completely looked down on the poor and ignored me. They got together and had such a good time in chatting and I
could only sit alone at a corner of a long table. I was puzzled as to what the Lord wanted me to do here. No
one paid attention to me. Mrs.
Zhau was occupied with cooking for tomorrow morning.
The pastor of her church was scheduled to arrive at midnight to
give a sermon and that meant that there would be no chance for me to
witness for the Lord. Therefore,
I simply took out a hymn, The Example of Prayer – Esther, and started to
copy it by hand. Perhaps
there would be a time when I could share it with everyone to sing
together. I sat there and
wrote one copy after another. Suddenly there was an announcement: “We have just received a phone call from the pastor saying that he could not come tonight and he has asked everyone to share and pray for the meeting.” Immediately Mrs. Zhau suggested: “This Ms. Xu has just come from Mainland China and she has many testimonies. Let her speak to us about this. Everyone agreed and sat down around the long table. I distributed the hand-written copies of the hymn and asked that they share with one another since there were not enough copies for everyone. First I led them to sing after me and then we sang along together. We sang it again and again, and everyone was filled with the Holy Spirit without expecting that this was going to happen. They agreed with one another that this was a singing of heaven and all of them were moved by the Holy Spirit to dance gracefully. I just stood there in stunned amazement. I could only give praise to God. How amazing his deeds were! After that, there was no need for me to say anything. Everyone earnestly joined together in prayer and our hearts burned as fervently as fire. A few hours had passed swiftly and it was daybreak. We joyfully ate breakfast. At first these rich ladies had regarded me as a refugee from Mainland China, but now they regarded me too highly as an angel. The leader of a women’s fellowship from a big church invited me to preach at her church. Three sisters in Christ from Canada gave me their addresses and hoped that I could visit them there. Another lady again and again invited me to live with her. I simply told her that the Lord said that we should not move from this house to that when we preached in a place. They wanted to record the hymns I sang and kept on asking me to sing more until I had sung every hymn I remembered. My voice was hoarse. This experience has taught me to exalt the Lord whenever I am sent to work. Before I left Hong Kong I went to the Prayer Mountain again and each time I went there I was blessed abundantly. |
