With Gratitude To God's Grace

5. My Mother Was Called

In the early days of the Liberation, my mother was very good at earning money. She bought a truck with someone to do business in many places. She asked my uncle to go with the truck to supervise it, while she was in charge of investment and decision-makings. My mother was just a little over forty when my younger sister and I went up the mountain. She looked so young that one of my father's friends, who was a well-known person of the Democratic Party, went to my house very often harboring an evil intention toward her. I decided to ask the Lord for a leave of absence to go home to stop the wickedness and to protect my mother. At dawn I went outside to pray to the Lord and planned to go home on that day. When I opened the Bible to read Psalms 45:10-11, these words were especially impressed to me:

"Listen, O daughter, consider, and give ear: Forget your people and your father's house. The King is enthralled by your beauty: honor him, for he is your Lord."

These words clearly told me not to worry about this thing at home. I entrusted my mother to God's hand by faith. I, myself, then served the Lord wholeheartedly on the mountain. How amazing are the deeds of God. Pretty soon my mother came up to the mountain. I was so surprised to see that all of her makeup had been removed. She had always put on light makeup, but now she did not put on any at all, and her hair was dressed in a bun. After I carefully investigated, I knew that she had become the leader of the Women's Fellowship at church. The old leader had left, and none of the sisters of the fellowship was willing to be the new leader. They pushed it away from one to another. Finally, they had no choice but to cast lots. After prayer, they cast the lots, and my mother's name was picked. She was shocked. Since she had become a leader she had no choice but to advance in the Spirit. Therefore, she came up to the mountain for one week, hoping she could enrich herself so that she could lead the Women's Fellowship. When she prayed alone on the mountain, the Holy Spirit moved her to dedicate herself to serve the Lord. She said to the Lord: "The life of a missionary is a life of faith, and it is too hard." She could not get used to the plain food. Immediately, one verse of Scripture was laid before her:

"Man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord." (Deuteronomy 8:3)

Again she said: "O Lord! I neither have knowledge nor am eloquent, how can I work for You?" Then another verse of Scripture appeared to answer her:

"Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit," (Zechariah 4:6).

Finally, she said to the Lord: "O Lord! I am doing business with a pool, how can I get free? My younger brother is a man of mediocrity and he can do nothing without me!" Immediately, another verse of Scripture came upon her:

"What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?" (Matthew 16:26).

She had never known much about the Bible, now all of a sudden there were three verses of Scripture answering her prayers. She felt that God appeared in life to her and she was clearly called. God brought my mother, my sister, and myself to this Holy Mountain. Afterward the Lord's servant, Uncle Chang, prayed for her and decided to send her to the House of God in Beijing for training. At the same time, my younger sister and several brothers and sisters had been in Beijing where Aunt Chang was in charge of the Bible study.
