Psalm 16/Revelation 11:5
Love God wholeheartedly and receive eternal blessing
Psalm 16/Revelation 11:5
In Rev. 11/3 God said that He would rise up His “two witnesses” at the end time. These are the two olive trees. The word of God to them is like the olive. Day and night they meditate on the word of God. The more they chew it, the more they get the taste of it. Their lives are edified a lot when they meditate on the word of God in this way. These are the two lampstands. They purify themselves everyday so that they keep close fellowship with the Holy God. Their lives are like lampstands shining for the Lord to everyone of the world. They concern what God concerns. They stand before the Lord of the earth, praying and watching for everyone. They are sent by the Holy Spirit to preach gospel to everyone in the whole world. Number“two” indicated there will be lots of servants like them at the end time. They keep God’s words by themselves and tell people about God’s words… They witness Gospel by their godly lives. “Two” also means unity of God’s servants in preaching gospel. They love the Lord with all of their hearts. Therefore, they can accomplish the plan of God. They are after God’s heart in everything they do, just like King David. They make God’s heart content, just as apostle Paul. They are dead to everything in the world. They are willing to lay down their lives for gospel preaching. That is why enemies of God regard them as a thorn in their eyes. But no one can hurt them. God protects them from the enemies. They are the apple of God’s eye. God will fill them with His promises and eternal pleasures and blessings.
Psalm 16/1-2: Desire nothing except God, take refuge in the Lord, and ask for protection
We know that the whole world is under the control of the evil one. Satan has been using the pleasure of sinful man, the cravings of his lust and the pride of fame and power to cheat many people to love the world. The devil also uses evil teachings, the error of the lawless and all kinds of heresies to mislead people to follow it to the hell. We also know the evil doer and the deceiver will go from bad to worse. God is the only shelter for us in this world.
Jesus, the beloved Son of almighty God who creates everything, has crushed the head of the devil on the cross. God has made him rise from the dead on the third day. All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Jesus. Our Lord has stretched out His wings and covered our land. If we take refuge in Him, the enemies can never hurt us. Never forsake the Lord. He will protect us from falling into the pit of darkness. He will keep us from being cheated or seduced by the devil. Our enemy “Hamman” has set up a time to destroy all of God’s children. We must follow the example of Queen Esther to pray for nothing of the world, but for our own lives and the lives of our people. What good will it be for us if we gain the whole world, but lose our souls? Therefore we pray, “We have no good thing apart from you, God.”
Verse 3: Anyone who loves the Lord will also love the saints.
They have the same goal and join together in one spirit to do God’s work. They encourage and advise one another on this spiritual journey. The Bible said, “One may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” (Ecclesiastes 4/10) Be on guard against the wicked trick of the evil one. (1) It makes Christians’ interactions unholy. (2) It causes divisions among us. If we are not holy in relation to our brothers and sisters, we lose the presence of God. We provoke God to anger. If we keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or we will be destroyed by each other. Be sure to greet one another with a HOLY kiss, urged earnestly by Paul. Create no division in the body of Christ. God will be with us and rain down His blessings on us if we seek to love one another in holiness.
Verse 4 The sorrow of those will increase who run after other gods.
Our God is jealous. The greatest commandment is to love the Lord with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our mind and with all our might. That is why Satan always seduces us to love people or things of the world more than God. It is so easy for us to love our family members, spiritual leaders or gifted people in church, or even ourselves more than God. Sometimes we are tempted to regard material goods, food, houses, money or fun as gods in our lives. There are people who love their ministry more than God Himself. They always have the poor with them, but they do not always have the Lord. Some even turn away from God to run after other gods, other gospel or even the false teachings. There are people run after human tradition, philosophy or the basic principles of this world. Whoever turns to other gods will have more sorrow. If we love God, we will hate evil. Our lips will not even mention the names of wickedness.
Verse 5-6: Be content with God and what God gives me.
I am willing to leave everything behind me and to suffer for the Lord. I am willing to take the way of cross. I will take part in the suffering of Jesus and obey the Holy Spirit to preach the gospel. The cup of suffering will be changed into the cup of overflowing blessings. No one who has left everything (homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and fields) for Jesus and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age and in the age to come, eternal life. (Mark 10/29-30)
Verse 7-8: Be watchful day and night and keep God’s word carefully.
Praise the Lord, who counsels me. Be sure to pay more careful attention to what we have heard. Then we will not fall down in the desert like those who mock God. Let us always set the Lord before us. Continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling…
Verse 9-11: If we love the Lord wholeheartedly, and be watch and keep God’s words, we will get eternal blessings of God.
The Lord will not abandon those who love Him and keep His words. Therefore, my heart, my body and my soul will rest and rejoice. The Lord will make me know the path of life and walk on the way of lasting righteousness. God will bring me close to Him and fill me with eternal pleasures in His presence.
